About Ahuntsic-Cartierville
Ahuntsic-Cartierville sits on the south bank of the Rivière des Prairies, directly across the water from Laval. Its oldest core, Sault-au-Récollet, grew from a Sulpician settlement established in 1696 and still holds houses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Cartierville developed later and for a different reason: it became the northern terminus of the Montreal Park and Island Railway tramway line in 1898 and was incorporated as a village in 1906, named for Sir George-Étienne Cartier. Most of the borough's current housing came later still, in the post-war push northward — solid brick duplexes and triplexes, bungalows, and two-storey homes.
